About
The goal of Read Between the Frets is to divulge to its readers the connection between philosophy and rock ‘n’ roll. Philosophy is defined in the American Heritage Dictionary as the ”critical analysis of fundamental assumptions or beliefs.” Because rock has, since its beginning, been a medium for questioning fundamental assumptions and beliefs, it is clear that the two disciplines are not only related, but intertwined. There is a philosophy within rock music, and a philosophy of rock music.
This website will explore both elements of this relationship to gain and present a greater understanding of the bond they share.
The end result of the Read Between the Frets website will be a collection of essays that explore and explain the connections between rock ‘n’ roll and philosophy. Users may come to the site in search of philosophical interests or rock interests. Both types of users will be satisfied by thoughtful material written about their topic of interest. Each week there will be a feature essay and four other essays. The feature essay will set the scope of research for that week, while the other essays will reflect upon and expand upon the theme of the feature essay. This model will provide depth in the form of the feature essay, and breadth in the form of the four smaller essays. This will allow all of the users at our site to find something that they are looking for among a week’s worth of essays.
Even if the main topic is not one of interest to them, one of the site’s writers will most likely have written from a perspective with which the reader can relate to. Through this method, Read Between the Frets will capture its audience each week and provide insightful material on the relationship between philosophy and rock ‘n’ roll.
